ITHRIV includes the University of Virginia, Inova Health System, Virginia Tech and Carilion Clinic as partners, with the Center for Open Science and UVA’s Licensing & Ventures Group as affiliates. The focus of iTHRIV is “using data to improve health” and leverages the data science expertise across the state.

The University of Virginia Health System is expanding its telehealth capacity to help patients across Virginia better prevent or manage chronic conditions that include diabetes, prediabetes, and heart disease.

University of Virginia School of Medicine professor Lee Ritterband created SHUTi (Sleep Healthy Using the Internet) – a digital therapeutic that uses cutting-edge technology to administer cognitive behavioral therapy for people suffering from insomnia. The School of Data Science – UVA’s 12th school and the first established since 2007 – will position the University as a global leader in efforts to improve society through teaching and research based on the powerful, emerging field of data science.

A $9.9 million federal grant was award to the Virginia Department of Education in partnership with the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation and the University of Virginia. The grant will support statewide programs and initiatives that boost Virginia's early education system.

The "Hire Virginia Job Fair" in Hampton Roads connected recent graduates of UVA to local employers looking to hire young talent. Coordinated by UVA's Career Center, the event represented a larger commitment by UVA to the Commonwealth to connect graduates to local employers. 

As the entrepreneurial offerings at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business continue to grow and mature, funding for ventures started by Darden alumni is skyrocketing. Darden's cultivation of the entrepreneurial ecosystem has created broad-based impact in Virginia and beyond.

Sponsored by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), undergraduate students can now complete courses within a "cybersecurity focal path," preparing them to fulfill workforce needs in Virginia and beyond.

UVA professors and administrators secured a nearly $7.6 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to detect broad-spectrum cyber threats almost immediately after they are launched. The project is related to the University's Cyber Innovation and Society Initiative and has the potential to protect organizations from cyber threats in Virginia and beyond.

UVA researchers founded Teachstone® to provide assessment and professional development for educators through the Classroom Assessment Scoring System® (CLASS®). The method has been broadly adopted at the state and national level in the US and in 45 countries. In May of 2018, Teachstone announced a partnership with KinderCare Education®, the nation's largest provider of early childhood education and child care.

PsiKick is utilizing revolutionary ultra-low-power technologies from the Universities of Virginia and Michigan to build completely self-powered sensing systems that do not require batteries, can be deployed nearly anywhere, and unlock new data streams that generate significant value in Virginia and beyond. The company also creates jobs in the Charlottesville region.

The College of Arts and Sciences created The New College Curriculum to help students flourish at UVA, in their chosen careers, and as active citizens. The curriculum stresses three literacies that equip students with the necessary skills and fluencies needed to succeed in a rapidly-transforming world.
